Grade 12 University and College Applications This month grade 12 students were introduced to either the on-line university applications through the Ontario University Application Centre (OUAC) or the on-line college applications through the Ontario College Application Service (OCAS). The university applications cost $130 for three choices plus $44 per additional choice. The college applications cost $95 for a maximum of five choices, with no more than three choices at any one college. The OUAC applications are due January 16, 2013, while the OCAS applications are due February 1, 2013. We strongly recommend that all applicants prepare for their applications now and complete their applications several days before the respective deadlines in order to avoid any potential Internet problems which typically occur during the final few days leading up to the deadline.
Preparing for University and College Applications
Grade 12 students are asked to research admission criteria to identify the prerequisite courses and grades that are required for certain programs of study at university or college. Students and parents are strongly encouraged to explore all of their post-secondary options and to identify the post-secondary programs that they will most likely be accepted into, while at the same time avoiding the programs that they most likely won't be accepted into. This research should be done well in advance of completing any on-line applications for college or university.
The Student Services office has copies of the latest course calendars and programs for the Ontario colleges and universities, as well as up-to-date information for many of the major out-of-province universities.
A very small number of grade 12 University-bound students with grade 11 averages from last year above 88%, might receive an "early offer of admission" in December or January. These "early offers" are based solely on last year's courses and marks. All other university applicants who have met the prerequisite course and admission average requirements will receive an offer of admission in late February or early March in the first round of offers. The first round of offers are based on last year's marks along with this year's first semester final marks. The second round of offers will come out after the second semester midterm marks in April/May with final offers coming out in May - June. Second and final round offers are based solely on marks obtained in the grade 12 year including semester 1 final marks and semester 2 midterm/final marks.

College applicants will begin receiving offers of admission in February.
All offers are conditional offers, meaning students must maintain a minimum overall final average in all prerequisite courses and must meet all graduation and diploma requirements in order to maintain their offers along with any associated scholarships. Students are encouraged to speak to their Guidance Counsellor if they have any questions about their post-secondary applications.
All students are reminded to return their completed Community Service Hours as soon as they are completed.
